Es soll ja Leute geben die nach Thailand fahren um sich dort einen Anzug schneidern zu lassen. Oder an sich herumschneiden zu lassen. Oder sich an schlecht gefälschten Turnschuhen erfreuen. Oder an Flaschenöffnern mit Holzpenisgriff. Oder… naja, darauf will ich jetzt besser garnicht weiter eingehen.
Wie auch schon für Amsterdam, hier eine grobe Auflistung meiner Souvenirs aus Thailand. Kleine, neue Lieblingsstücke. Erinnerung für mich, Inspiration für euch:
Rumors say there are people, who travel to Thailand to get a well tailored suit. Or who are happy with badly faked sneakers. Or with little wooden frogs that make funny noises. Or get a boob job done. Or other kind of jobs… well, I won’t go any further in detail here.
Same as for Amsterdam, here’s a brief list of my souvenirs from Thailand, neatly organized on my floor. New favorite items, which will remind me of my trip and might inspire you:
1.
Darlie Zahnpasta
Weil Lea überhaupt nicht mehr aufgehört hat drüber zu sprechen, wie toll diese umgerechnet 40 Cent kostende Zahnpasta ist, wanderte sie eines schönen Tages beim täglichen Kauf irgendeiner widerlich süßen Fantasorten in einem Seven Eleven in meine Tüte.
Darlie toothpaste
Because Lea has been raving about it the whole time and I tried it in our shared bathroom once, this 40 cents toothpaste went into my shopping bag while one of my daily strolls in a nearby Seven Eleven store to buy another awful sweet Fanta.

Notizhefte
Einer meiner Vorsätze für 2013: Mehr Reisetagebuch führen. Die beiden Hübschen sind aus einem großen Store namens „Loft“ im Siam Discovery Center in Bangkok. Dieser Laden ist voll mit verrückten Dingen von iPhone Bling Bling, über BH-Koffer bis hin zu Urzeitkrebsen. Sie haben alles.
Notebooks
One of my goals for 2013: Write travel journals. I wasn’t really good in sticking to that one, so I bought some more notebooks in a store called „Loft“ at Siam Discovery Center in Bangkok. This store is packed with all kinds of crazy stuff. From iPhone jewelry, over bra cases to sea monkeys. They’ve got everything.

Klebeband
Jap, ich kanns nicht lassen. Diesmal Neonfarben. Diesmal für die Verschönerung meines MacBooks. Auch das hat „Loft“.
Tape
Yep, again. But this time I chose some bright neon colors to tape a little graphical pattern on my MacBook. Also found at „Loft“
4.
Ein Schwein
Ich weiß grad auch nicht so recht was ich mir dabei gedacht habe. Ich glaube ich fand einfach nur so super, dass das Mädel in der Jungdesigner Ecke des Chatuchak Markts allerlei verrücktes Zeug von Hand näht. Auch dieses Schwein.

What the hell was I thinking? Well, I don’t really know. All I know is that I was kind of impressed with the cute local designer who hand sewed all kind of crazy stuff herself in a corner of Chatuchak market. Also this little piggy.
5.
Menthol-Inhalierdingsies
Ist der Hit in Thailand. Ständig riechen alle an den kleinen Plastikstiften mit stark beißendem Minzgeruch. Musste ich, bekennender Nasensprayjunkie, natürlich auch haben, auch nochmal als hübsche silberne Edition. Gibt es in jeder Apotheke und den meisten Seven Elevens. Irgendeine Art von Wirkung konnte ich aber nicht feststellen.
Menthol-inhaler-thingies
I don’t really get the hype about this stuff, but of course myself, a professed nose spray junkie had to try it. Everywhere you’ll find people smelling from this small plastic sticks with strong menthol scent. You can find Siang Pure Inhalers all around the country in pharmacies and Seven Elevens. But I didn’t see any kind of impact.

Vintage Hemden
Einmal den Chatuchak Markt betreten, habe ich nicht nur ziemlich schnell die Orientierung sondern auch bald die Kontrolle verloren. Insgesamt 5 Second Hand Hemden habe ich eingetütet, wovon ich eines verschenkt habe.

Once I set my foot on Chatuchak market I not only quickly lost my orientation, but also control. In total I bargained 5 second hand shirts, of which I gave one away as a present.

Tuch
Es sollte nicht bei Hemden bleiben. Die traditionellen Tücher eignen sich wunderbar als Mitbringsel. Ne hübsche Tischdecke für Mama, dachte ich. Blöd nur, dass sich herausstellte dass die Dinger tatsächlich schon fertig zu einem Schlauch genäht sind, um sie traditionell als langen Rock zu tragen. Ich blöder Touri.
Cloth
The shirts wouldn’t stay the only bargains. The traditional cloths just make a wonderful souvenir. This will be a great tablecloth for Mum, I thought. Well, just a bummer these things are already stitched together to a tube, for the traditional way of wearing it as a long skirt. Smartypants tourist I am.

Jelly Shoes
In der Kindheit geliebt und seither vermisst: Gummischuhe. Perfekt für steinige Strände und dreckige Festivals.

Mehr hat nicht mehr in meinen Backpack gepasst. Und das ist auch gut so. Zusammengefasst kann ich es sehr empfehlen sich in Bangkok mal eines der großen Shoppingcenter anzusehen, dort in einer der Bäckereien einen Bacon Muffen zu essen, alle verrückten Dinge im Seven Eleven (besonders die Fantasorten) mal zu probieren und sich auf dem Chatuchak Markt treiben zu lassen. Bei letzterem sollte man bloß nicht auf die Idee kommen, da mit System durchlaufen zu wollen. Ich nehme beim nächsten Mal einen Kompass mit.

No more space in my Backpack for anything else. An that’s a good thing. In short, I can really recommend having a stroll at one of Bangkoks giant shopping malls, find a bacon muffin in one of the bakeries there, try every crazy thing you can find at a Seven Eleven (especially the crazy lemonade flavors) and to go with the flow at Chatuchak Weekend Market. But for the latter case, don’t try to walk through the giant labyrinth with a system. Next time I’ll bring my compass.

Hihi, ich hab ganz ähnliche Sachen gekauft, als ich da war. Die meisten allerdings auf dem Sonntagsmarkt in Chiang Mai. „Sunday Night Market Walking Streets“ nennt der sich glaub ich und ist ganz famos! Du würdest ihn lieben. Da gibt’s auch ganz viel so Vintagezeugs und so. Und einen thailändischen Polizisten, der Karaoke singt. 🙂
