There is this German song, about Brandenburg and how empty it is and although everyone thinks it is just a persiflage on the province around Berlin, last week I had to experience how very true it is. To be honest, it’s actually easier to find a 15kg rabbit there, than a pub that’s open on a Monday. But why rabbits and why Brandenburg? Well, sometimes the pretty things lay just in front of your door and sometimes there just has to be a random reason to just go there and have a proper look.

You simply take some French boys with a crazy idea, an equally crazy friend and a car and take the route to Brandenburg on a Monday morning to go on a quest for giant rabbits. What we found besides long eared animals, were lonely streets, that lead from gravel roads over to farm tracks just to stop in seemingly endless grasslands. Train stations with an overgrown platform at only one rail track and chirring grasshoppers, deep blue lakes and a mammoth. Yes, a mammoth. Altogether a day, that just reminded me of the days, when I just got my drivers license and drove all across my home province of Niederrhein to feel my recently gained freedom.

Thanks to Alexis, Ben and Yvonne for the great day and Stefan for the hint on where to look for the rabbits.
